2022 Volkswagen ID.4 Interior and Exterior Features
With your choice of 201 or 295 horsepower, the Volkswagen ID.4 proves that all-electric vehicles do not have to sacrifice strength. However, performance and power are only one side of this fully electric SUV. The 2021 edition won the Wards 10 Best User Experiences award, and now the 2022 version has arrived with further improvements. To help decide if this is the SUV for you, let’s explore the 2022 Volkswagen ID.4’s interior and exterior.
2022 Volkswagen ID.4 Overview and Exterior
The Volkswagen ID.4 is inspired by the Beetle while also managing its visual style. The ID.4 is a fully electric SUV with two choices of powertrain. For 2022, the front has a new headlamp design implementing an LED light bar. From the sloping roofline to the unique roof-mounted spoiler, VW achieved a look that they likely won’t alter significantly. A tow hook is located below the logo and ID.4 badging, allowing this new attractive SUV to pull a 2,700-pound braked trailer.
2022 Volkswagen ID.4 Trim Levels and Highlights
There are three trim levels to choose from: Pro, Pro S, and Pro S with Gradient. Each can be configured in either rear-wheel or all-wheel drive. Proximity-enabled door handles and 19-inch alloy wheels are standard on the Pro edition. Customizable interior ambient lighting comes standard with LED headlights, keyless entry, and keyless sit-to-start.
Upgrading to the Pro S or Pro S with Gradient adds premium LED projector headlights and an illuminated grille. The Pro S also gets a hands-free opening and closing power liftgate, more options for the interior ambient lighting, a rear-seat armrest and ski pass-thru, a variable level trunk floor, and power-folding door mirrors with signature lighting. The Pro S with Gradient is very similar to the Pro S, but it has 20-inch alloy wheels and a beautiful exterior with a black painted roof, silver roof rails, and two-tone color options.
2022 Volkswagen ID.4 Body Color Options
The ID.4 Pro is available in one solid color, Moonstone Gray, as well as three metallic tones: Glacier White, Mythos Black, and Scale Silver. The Pro S has an additional Dusk Blue Metallic tone. The Pro S with Gradient can use plain Mythos Black Metallic, or you can combine a black roof in a two-tone combination with Moonstone Gray, Scale Silver, Glacier White, Dusk Blue, or an Exclusive Kings Red Metallic.
2022 Volkswagen ID.4 Interior and Seating
Today, most EVs go for an interior cabin that is distinctly modern but familiar. The 2022 VW ID.4 is no exception, boasting a sleek cabin with good visibility and no extraneous buttons and knobs. Efficiency is the goal in every aspect of the SUV’s interior. The best example is ID. light, which uses intuitive visual signals to better inform the driver of brake warnings, charge status, incoming calls, and much more.
The standard cloth fabric is pleasant to the touch, but if you want the finest level of comfort, upgrade to the Pro S for leatherette upholstery. Two-way power-adjustable front seats with multi-level heating are standard on the base trim. If you want more options, go for the 2022 ID.4 Pro S or Pro S with Gradient, which both have eight-way power-adjustable seats and massage functions.
2022 Volkswagen ID.4 Driver Display and Infotainment
The ID.4’s tilt/telescopic adjustable steering wheel and the 5.3-inch multi-information display are both wrapped in stylish leather. The intuitive gear shifter is conveniently located next to the digital display. A wireless charging station, two cupholders, and a storage box are all included in the center console.
As for infotainment screens, a 10-inch touch screen sits atop the streamlined dash, standard with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay functions. The Pro S unlocks a 12-inch display instead. Both screens are quick-loading and easy to use. The touchscreen with voice control is equipped to handle navigation, climate control, and more. You can get where you’re going without ever touching the screen.
2022 Volkswagen ID.4 Cargo Area and Interior Space
With 41.1 inches of front headroom and legroom, anyone can agree that the compact EV’s cabin is worth a road trip. The headroom in the back row is 38.4 inches, while the legroom is 37.6 inches. The ID.4 has a rear load capacity of 30.3 cubic feet, which can expand to 64.2 cubic feet by folding the rear seats. All told, the ID.4’s interior is quite large, especially for the compact class.
2022 Volkswagen ID.4 Safety and Driver Assistance
While the VW ID.4 comes in two trim levels, you’ll enjoy a fuel-efficient and environmentally responsible ride with tons of customization. Just like the upcoming ID. Buzz, the 2022 VW SUV carries many advanced safety systems through the IQ. Drive suite. The ID.4’s IQ. Drive package contains lane centering, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning, automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and even autonomous driving at speeds between 0 and 95 mph.
2022 Volkswagen ID.4 – What’s New?
If you’re interested in the updates on the 2021 edition, here’s our list of the three primary changes to the 2022 VW ID.4:
- A new auto-hold brake function is now standard. This descent-control feature automatically stops the vehicle on a hill, even if the brake pedal isn’t pushed. Now, you can gain more stability when you first start to move the SUV.
- The ID.4’s DC fast charging has increased power output to 135 kW over 125.
- All driving range numbers are slightly improved. Rear-wheel-drive ID.4 Pro models can travel up to 280 miles on a full charge, while Pro S versions get 268 miles per full charge. Comparing all-wheel drive, the Pro can travel up to 251 miles, and the Pro S can travel up to 245.
The ID.4 is an optimal EV for both suburbs and cities. The 2022 edition expands that value, but the interior and exterior are largely unchanged for a good reason.
