The 2022 Volkswagen ID.4 EV is an impressive vehicle in terms of performance, sporting 240-260 miles of all-electric range and a powerful optional all-wheel-drive system. But does it have a nice interior? What sort of comfort and safety features are included? As a top-rated Northeast Ohio Volkswagen dealership, we are happy to answer any questions. If you are curious about the 2022 VW ID.4 interior, here is everything you need to know.

Volkswagen ID.4 EV Interior Quality

Volkswagen designed the ID.4 with a minimalist console and a broad windshield, giving the SUV’s cabin a roomy, open-air feel. The seats are comfortable, and the front console area feels advanced but not overwhelming or unfamiliar. Ambient lighting strips in changeable colors highlight armrests in the doors and the upper portion of the dash panel. Interior and cargo volume are also competitive with gasoline SUVs and EVs, as we’ll explore later.

VW created the ID.4 as part of their push toward a predominantly electric lineup. The ID.4 SUV lives up to that goal regarding overall cabin value. The entirely electric powertrain, free of combustion and all the associated parts, dramatically reduces the noise in the cabin, leading to a nearly silent drive at both low and high speeds.

Volkswagen ID Light and AI

ID Light is a core component of the ID.4’s artificial intelligence interface. ID Light is a shifting light bar that runs the length of the crossover’s dashboard, flashing in a noticeable, non-intrusive way in tandem with the AI’s voice. The system notifies drivers of incoming calls, driver safety concerns, and much more.

The light bar consists of 54 multi-color LEDs lined up in a sequence, and the system utilizes these lights in different ways. The central premise is using lights visible in the driver’s periphery to reduce the reliance upon screens or voice notifications. For instance, when it’s time to make an upcoming turn during navigation, the light bar can flow the lights left to right or right to left repeatedly to guide the driver on which way to turn subtly.

Volkswagen’s ID Light AI has been comprehensively outfitted with responses for different situations; it can even tell jokes. Perhaps most impressive is how the system responds appropriately to statements that aren’t direct commands. For instance, saying “Hello ID. My feet are cold” causes ID to turn on the heater near the driver’s feet.

Driver-Assist Safety Features

All ID.4 vehicles come standard with adaptive cruise control and a city emergency braking system, a version of automatic emergency braking that works at 18 mph or lower. Each model also includes a driver-fatigue alert along with high beam assist. Driver fatigue alert detects when the driver may be losing focus on the road, such as through steering inconsistencies or lane drifting. High beam assist automatically activates and deactivates the high beams only when needed, judging the situation ahead of the driver moment to moment.

Drivers who upgrade to the ID.4 Max models get Side and Travel Assist technology alongside the other driver-assist features. These two features are more advanced versions of traditional lane-keeping systems. Together with IQ Drive’s semi-autonomous control mode, this technology takes nearly all the stress out of driving.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo Space

Simultaneously contemporary and techy without looking sterile or cluttered, the VW ID.4 is one of the most sophisticated Volkswagen cabins yet. Drivers are sure to enjoy the 1st Edition model, which adds cute pause-and-play symbols on the brake and accelerator pedals. It shows that electric, autonomous, or cutting-edge does not mean self-serious.

As for comfort and seating, cloth upholstery is standard. VW also offers an optional Statement package, which swaps the cloth for imitation leather and adds 12-way power adjustment for the front seats. The Statement package also adds massage and memorized position functions for both front seats.

Volkswagen designed the ID.4 with drivers and passengers equally in mind. Thanks to clever updates from VW’s MEB platform, the SUV’s roomy cabin will fit four adults easily. The rear seats have a substantial 37.6 inches of rear legroom, and when it’s time to go shopping or help someone move, fold down the rear seats and make use of up to 64.2 cubic feet of load space.

Convenience and Cruising

The ID.4 EV uses the latest advancements and innovations in its interior outside of actual driving. For instance, you’ve likely heard of push-button start, but what about the intuitive start? With the appropriate setting chosen, your VW ID.4 will turn on automatically as soon as you sit in the driver’s seat. All you need is the key fob in your pocket.

Many road-tripping drivers like to get an SUV with a sunroof, but different screen types can limit the usefulness of such features. Compare that to the ID.4. If you choose its optional panoramic glass sunroof, you’ll be able to flood your cabin with natural light by withdrawing the electric sunshade. Move it back when needed at any time.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The ID.4 comes with a standard 10-inch touchscreen, but you can upgrade to a more prominent 12-inch display with the Statement package. Both screens use the ID.4’s model-specific software, the next VW infotainment speed, and reliability level. Both screens have navigation built-in, but it’s easy to set up navigation or other apps through one’s preferred device using wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. All ID.4 models include a 5.3-inch digital gauge display in view of the driver. This additional display may be reconfigured and respond to speech commands.

Adding up all these unique elements, the VW ID.4 will likely emerge as the new standard to beat in electric SUVs. The vehicle already has an astounding performance and efficiency over gasoline SUVs, and now it should be clear that it doesn’t lag in the cabin either.
