Volkswagen fans looking for a small car have two excellent options to choose from: the subcompact Tiguan and the compact Touareg. Read on to learn more about the similarities and differences between the 2017 models of these VWs to help determine which car is right for you.

Performance

On the exterior, both models possess similar designs, in nearly every aspect. Under the hood, however, lies an immense distinction between the models. Comparing the base models of the two, the Tiguan is equipped with a 2.0L I-4 engine capable of generating 200 hp and 207 lb-ft. of torque with an efficiency of 20 city/24 highway mpg respectively. The Tiguan engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission.

The Touareg on the other hand, tells a much different story than the Tiguan. The Touareg is equipped with a larger and stronger V6 drivetrain, with a displacement of 3.6L, and is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The drivetrain has the capability to go up to 280 horsepower and offers a 17 city/23 highway mpg respectively. Appearance

The first distinctive difference that any VW enthusiast will note between the two models is the difference in size. The VW Tiguan is much smaller than the Touareg but has a sportier look and feel. Being the smaller model, expect a smaller cargo space of 56.1 cubic ft. Other exterior differences include differences in the wheelbase; the Tiguan sports a wheelbase of 102.5 inches.
