Serving Streetsboro, Kent, and Akron, OH
When value is the goal, thoughts often turn to economical hatchbacks. Two leading models are 2017 VW Golf and 2017 Honda Fit. They both offer excellent resale value, long-term reliability and high build quality. Besides the Golf Hatchback, you can also choose a wagon model, as well as all-electric and high performance versions. Fit offers a hatchback in three trim levels. We’re confident a test-drive of both cars will convince you that the VW is the winner when it comes to value and performance.
Powertrain
The 2017 Golf TSI is equipped with a 1.8-liter turbo-4 engine putting out 170 horsepower and 200 lb-ft of torque. It is matched to a 6-speed automatic transmission with Sport Mode and Tiptronic. The 2.0-liter turbo 4-cylinder engines on the Golf R and Golf GTI output 292 and 210 horsepower, respectively. The 2017 Fit’s only engine is a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder with 128 horsepower, 113-lb-ft of torque and a continuously variable automatic transmission. Both models offer manual transmissions, but only Golf is available in a 4-wheel drive configuration.
Dimensions
The fun-to-drive Golf is wider (70.8 vs 67.0 inches), longer (167.5 vs 160.5 inches), lower (57.2 vs 60.0 inches) and has a longer wheelbase (103.8 vs 99.6 inches). The Golf also gives you more shoulder and head room, front and rear. The two vehicles share the same amount of cargo space, 52.7 cubic feet. Both vehicles give you a 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty, but the Golf comes with 12-year corrosion coverage, compared to 5 years for the Fit.
Safety
The 2017 Golf comes with a Rearview Camera and offers available Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Assist, Front/Rear Park-Distance Control, Auto High Beams, Rain-Sensing Wipers and Park Steering Assistant.
